Part 2 of my Operation Anchorage Review/Comparison.

SOUNDS:

Shivering Isles (SI)

Ok, first I love Oblivion’s soundtrack truly a gaming masterpiece. Second, Shivering Isles is no different. Problem is, they may be too alike. Granted it is the same game overall just expanded. Now the in-game noises are what truly make SI stand out from OA. The world is alive as you walk around (run if you like moving faster than a snail). The game has lots of in-game noise that really makes you stop and wonder what made that noise. Now the best part of SI would have to be the top-notch voice acting. I absolutely loved hearing the people talk. Of course the best person in the whole expansion who talked would have to be Sheogorath. THIS GUY IS AWESOME. Ok, there you have why SI is great in the sound department.

Operation Anchorage (OA)

OA is great too, but in all honesty, I’ve heard it all before. The only parts worth noting are the Chinese voices, snow crunching boot sounds, and a few other things. The music is commonplace and the voices are good, but nothing outstanding. I will have say though the very large cannons in the beginning are freaking sweet.

Winner: Shivering Isles

I shall compare two DLCs offered to us by Bethesda Shivering Isle and Operation Anchorage.

I’m going based off my experience with other “story driven” DLC.  Now granted these are two separate games but they were built by the same guys, so I fell I can get away with it.

The first of this series of reviews, shall be graphics.

GRAPHICS:

Shivering Isle (SI):

Beautifully colored world where everything is a different color and shape. The screen radiates greatness when you look upon the flamboyant colors of Mania. While Dementia will net you dark and dreary colors. These two contrasting color schemes really help pull the world together and draw the viewer in. The people you meet look great in their strange and flamboyant (depending on who’s side you are on). The buildings do look a little generic being made of stone, but the interiors are really well done and look and feel made perfectly.

Operation Anchorage (OA):

Here we have something different….SNOW. My God snow is the best thing since sliced bread. Ok, I may be over-exaggerating on that but whatever. The first I noticed when I loaded Operation Anchorage was the blinding white snow. This threw me completely for considering I had just been in the Wasteland for close to 200+ hours. I think this alone makes OA better in the graphics department because it is so different. Yes SI has beautiful colors and what not, but it really is the same stuff as before. Here we have a case of complete reversal and something new. People look great, weapons look great, I finally don’t feel fat in power armor (thanks T51-b). Overall the graphics look great for OA. My vote has to go with OA for this one.

Winner: Operation Anchorage.
